Kevin H. Young is a Partner in the firm's Chicago office and is a seasoned civil defense attorney whose practice focuses on representing individuals, businesses, and insurers in complex litigation matters. With a particular concentration on general liability, transportation, and construction claims, Mr. Young brings a strategic and results-oriented approach to every case.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Young has successfully defended clients in a broad spectrum of civil matters, including personal injury, property damage, products liability, and wrongful death actions. He is adept at handling claims arising from premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, and construction site incidents, often involving high stakes and multifaceted legal challenges. Clients rely on Mr. Young not only for rigorous legal analysis but also for practical business-minded solutions.
With regard to his construction practice, Mr. Young defends general contractors, subcontractors, developers, architects, and engineers throughout Illinois in matters in the construction industry. His construction defect work includes defending against allegations of faulty workmanship, design deficiencies, water intrusion, building code violations, and soil compression. He frequently collaborates closely with engineering and architectural experts to evaluate causation and damages. He also defends against personal injury cases brought under general negligence, premises liability, retained control, and OSHA related negligence actions. He is well versed in navigating Illinois’ contribution statute in addition to practice involving additional insured and indemnification provisions commonly found in construction contracts.
In the transportation sector, Mr. Young has defended motor carriers, logistic providers, and commercial drivers in both state and federal courts. His experience includes emergency response coordination, investigation management, and litigation involving FMCSA regulations, driver qualifications, and catastrophic loss claims. He is called upon to quickly assess risk and preserve critical evidence in the immediate aftermath of an incident.
Known for his thorough preparation and persuasive advocacy, Mr. Young has earned a reputation for resolving matters efficiently through all aspects of litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He routinely appears before federal and state courts throughout Illinois, and his clients appreciate his dedication to clear communication and steadfast representation at every stage of litigation. He has deposed and defended hundreds of depositions, including dozens of depositions of independent and retained expert witnesses.
In a diverse practice, Mr. Young has handled commercial litigation cases involving the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Businesses Act and the Illinois Deceptive Trade Practices Act in addition to traditional UCC and breach of contract claims. Additionally, he has defended against employment claims and matters arising out of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.
Mr. Young earned his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and he earned his B.A. in history, economics, and political science from Syracuse. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and is an active member of legal organizations such as the Illinois Defense Counsel. Outside of the courtroom, you can probably find Mr. Young taking in a comedy show in Chicago’s outstanding standup comedy scene.
